Alabama State Capitol

Alabama State Capitol

Today, I wanted to share a photo of the Alabama State Capitol building in Montgomery.

Even at 24mm I wasn’t really happy with the shots I was getting standing at the base of the steps.  Luckily, another photographer/tourist had given me an idea as I was approaching the area: stand in the middle of the street.

Luckily, it was Saturday and traffic was almost non-existent at the T-shaped intersection in front of the building.  Still, I made sure the coast was clear before standing still too long.  I managed to get this shot without… “incident”.

Mostly basic adjustments in Lightroom 4, but I took the opportunity to practice my adjustment brush skills on the sky to try to bring out the building more (white building against gray sky).  Using the brush was very challenging near the detail of the trees; I can tell I’ll need to increase my patience if I want to get better with the adjustment brush in more detailed areas of a photo.

Now, if I could just get those trees to grow more symmetrically.
